This presentation will explore the results of two seasons of field school excavations in the Glencoe landscape at the Summerhouse of MacIain, and the settlement of Achnacon, which offer us insights into life in this glen in the 17th and 18th centuries. The excavation of the Summerhouse of MacIain and the discovery of the Glencoe Hoard represent a snapshot of high status activity among clan elites and provide us insights into the negotiation of power and projection of status by the MacDonald of Glencoe chiefs. The settlement at Achnacon provides a broader picture of life in this glen, from household craft activities to subsistence practices to rituals of the home, as well as the impact of the dramatic events of 1692 on the communities of this landscape.
